“DoveTale” comes to St. Andrew
December 19 and 20 at 7:00 p.m
Have you ever wondered what was going through the minds of Mary and Joseph as that holiest of all nights was approaching? How did those events effect their commitment to each other and their upcoming marriage? Those questions, and many more, will be answered in this year’s production of “DoveTale.”
For 16 years St. Andrew has been producing fundraisers for the La Luz Center. La Luz is an important non-profit agency in the Sonoma Valley that serves our Latino community. We at St. Andrew believe in the mission of La Luz so much that we annually present a Christmas program where 100% of the proceeds are given to La Luz.
This year our Drama Team will be presenting “DoveTale: How the First Christmas Finally Came Together.” DoveTale is a full-length dramatic production depicting the relationship between Mary and Joseph in the days leading up to the birth of Jesus. A dovetail joint is a carpentry term for the strongest of all joints used in woodworking. And the title of the play is the acknowledgement of the incredible bond between Mary and Joseph as they prepared for the night that changed the world.
“DoveTale” was written by comic duo Ted and Lee with the help of Ingrid DeSanctis from Willow Creek Church. It blends humor and wonder, laughter and tears in a story for the ages. There are eleven roles in the play, but only three actors. Expect to see many quick costume changes by our three actors, Dawne Carver, Hal McCown and Denis Ljung. The elaborate sets are the result of a team effort headed up by Frank Herrick and Pat Ingram. Eric VanCleave will be overseeing the lighting requirements as well as sound. The production is directed by Hal McCown and Jane Martin.
“DoveTale” promises to be a production you will not soon forget. Please invite your neighbors and friends, your family and co-workers. “DoveTale” will be presented on Saturday night, December 19 and Sunday night, December 20. Both productions will begin at 7:00 p.m. and a free-will offering will be taken for La Luz.
