Attendees: Rich Gantenbein, (pastor and moderator), Kathleen Hawing, Sylvia Bernard, Caryn Prince, Bill Dempsey, Jerry Sanden, Pat Ingram, Fred Nielsen, Jim Morgan, Jim MacFarlan
Also present: Tim Ramage, Don Minor (clerk of session)
Meeting called to order at 9:05 A.M. by the moderator, Rich Gantenbein.
A quorum was present. An opening prayer was given by Rev. Tim Ramage.
The retreat began with singing of several songs accompanied by Tim Ramage on guitar.
A video by Dr. J. Edwin Orr on prayer was viewed by all. This was followed by discussion of the video and “prayer”.
Elder Job Descriptions:
A presentation of “Leadership Principles” was made by Jim Morgan.
The role of elders as described in the Book of Order was presented by Rev. Gantenbein. Three different aspects of the job were discussed:
Spiritual leaders
Board of director’s role
Management of specific areas
A process of “brainstorming of ideas” of elder job descriptions was then led by Jim Morgan. A summary of these ideas will be presented at a later meeting.
Lunch break – with a delicious sit down lunch prepared by Cathy Collier.
The Treasure Principle: This book was discussed along with a lengthy sharing and discussion of tithing by the session and our church, and how best to present the stewardship ideas to the congregation.
There was discussion of another retreat in a few months.
