Worship Team

There are many people involved in making our worship service a meaningful experience for our members and visitors. Please read the list below of the different Teams that are utilized in our worship services. If you have a skill or talent in any of these areas (or would like to learn a new skill or talent!) please contact David Irvine, our Director of Worship, at dirvine@andrewpres.org or by calling the church office.

Art Team:

Our beautiful sanctuary is often adorned with inspiring artwork from the talented individuals on the Art Team. There are two basic divisions in our efforts. We utilize art for seasonal times of the year (Advent, Christmas, Lent, etc.) and art specific to a particular sermon series

  • There is room on the Art Team for persons of all ages and with all levels of ability and experience. While previous experience is wonderful, more important is the willingness to risk and to learn.
  • The head of the Art Team is responsible for the selection of artwork, the appointment of artists and the purchasing of needed materials.
  • There are no regular meetings of the Art Team. Rather the group meets on an “as needed” basis.

Drama Team:

St. Andrew finds that the gospel message is often beautifully expressed through the dramatic arts. We use both purchased and original scripts to bring illumination to the message brought by the preacher in worship.

  • There is room on the Drama Team for persons of all ages and with all levels of ability and experience. While previous experience is wonderful, more important is the willingness to risk and to learn.
  • The head of the Drama Team is responsible for the selection of scripts, the appointment of directors and often, the selection of the actors for a particular script.

Handbell Choirs

St. Andrew is lucky to have a fine tradition in handbell choirs. We now own 5 octaves of Schulmerich handbells and three octaves of Schulmerich hand chimes. The Festival Bells are an auditioned group of advanced handbell ringers.  The group has represented St. Andrew at several events throughout the Sonoma Valley.  Membership is by invitation of the director. The group rehearses every Wednesday night (September through June) from 7:15 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. The group typically plays in worship once a month and performs two concerts per year.

Praise Team

One of the most exciting offerings at St. Andrew is the musical leadership of our Praise Team. We utilize, but are not limited to, keyboards, guitars, bass, drums and singers. The Praise Team is responsible for leading congregational singing approximately twice per month during the worship services.

The ability to play a musical instrument or sing (or both) is essential to the Praise Team. So too is the attitude of servant leadership. There are no “stars” on the Praise Team. The sole purpose is to inspire the congregation in singing and worshiping God.

St. Andrew Singers

The St. Andrew Singers are the backbone of a very exciting and dynamic ministry of music. Comprised of adult and youth singers, the St. Andrew Singers are responsible for leading worship three times a month at both services.

The ability to read music, play an instrument or sing at sight are NOT required or expected. The willingness to learn to be a better musician and singer, and the desire to contribute to worship IS required and expected.  The St. Andrew Singers rehearse every Thursday night (September – June) from 7:15 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.   The St. Andrew Singers typically perform two concerts per year: The Christmas Concert for La Luz and the Spring Concert.

Projection Crew

St. Andrew uses Power Point through an LCD projector to communicate with the congregation during the worship services. We know that congregational participation is greatly enhanced through the use of this technology.

  • A Projection Crew member is typically assigned one Sunday per month to be “on duty”. They are responsible for setting up the equipment, providing coverage for both worship services and for breaking down the equipment at the conclusion of the Sunday services.
  • Anyone with moderate technical aptitude can be a Projection Crew member. Everything that is needed can be taught. However, knowledge of Power Point is a bonus. We occasionally make use of videos excerpts, so knowledge of video equipment is also helpful.

Sound Crew

The ability to hear during a worship service is essential to the worshipers if they expect to gain anything from the experience. While the acoustics of our sanctuary is excellent, there are special needs that require the use of amplified sound.

  • The Sound Crew is responsible for making sure that the preacher is heard throughout the sanctuary. They are also responsible for recording of the sermon for the website and local radio broadcast.
  • The Sound Crew is responsible for amplifying the Drama Team and Praise Team. This often requires additional time commitments for set-up and rehearsal.
  • The Sound Crew member that is “on duty” for a particular service must be attentive at all times and ready to react at a moments notice to the needs of those leading in worship.
  • No technical expertise is required – all will be trained to how to use the relatively uncomplicated equipment. What is essential is the ability to constantly monitor the sound in the sanctuary and the ability to react in an appropriate manner.
