Sunday service now starts at 9:30
LGBTQIA+ Welcome Statement.
St. Andrew Presbyterian Church warmly invites, welcomes, and affirms persons who identify as members of the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as all who seek to deepen their relationship with God.
Our culture is a diverse one comprised of many different types of people, and while many institutions choose to practice a policy of exclusion, St. Andrew Presbyterian Church chooses to practice acceptance and affirmation, and celebrate diversity as a direct reflection of God’s creation.
Come for worship next Sunday morning, with coffee and fellowship before and after. We hope you will stop by and see what St. Andrew Presbyterian Church is all about.
Whether you identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender...
Or if you know or love someone who identifies as LGBTQIA+...
Or if you believe that we were ALL created in God's image...
Or if you simply want to find a place of worship where all are welcome...
We invite you to our friendly, open, accepting, and affirming church in the beautiful Sonoma Valley.
In addition to being a More Light Presbyterian congregation, St. Andrew is a proud member of gaychurch.org, which provides a directory of affirming Christian churches. An affirming church is defined as one that does not view homosexuality in and of itself as a sin, and therefore would welcome and treat an LBGTQ+ person no different than any other person who walked through their church doors seeking Christ.
Rev. Nicole Trotter had the honor of having a conversation with Rev. Dr. Janie Spahr. Watch the video of this June 11, 2023 service.
The Rev. Dr. Jane Adams Spahr, Janie, as she prefers to be called, describes herself as a lesbian, feminist, Presbyterian minister committed to justice issues for the lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender community, pursuing connections for wholeness with other oppressed communities claiming their freedom.
St. Andrew is a More Light Congregation.
More Light Mission Statement:
Following the risen Christ, and seeking to make the Church a true community of hospitality, the mission of More Light Presbyterians is to work for the full participation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA+) people in the life, ministry and witness of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and in society.
What Does More Light Do?
More Light’s mission has always been to empower and equip individuals and congregations to live into their welcome for LGBTQIA+ people. More Light has developed interrelated programs to move congregations along a pathway toward full inclusion, improve ministry services for LGBTQIA+ individuals in need, and expand the faith-based movement opposing discriminatory legislation. Our programs help congregations and our members build their capacity and develop new skills to deepen their welcome to LGBTQIA+ people within their churches and in their wider communities. Check out Our Work to learn more about our various programs!
As a More Light church, what do we believe?
We believe in a God of abundance. Therefore we are called to be hope evangelists, building a church that reflects God’s heart. More Light believes we must refocus on who God is as a way to understand the fullness of what God is calling us to next. We believe God is bigger than we could ever imagine. We are created in the image of a God of abundance, of limitless possibilities and expansion.
Following God’s abundance, More Light believes that members and churches live into this understanding of God through a developmental journey which begins with a deepening understanding of a theology of God’s abundance, which then extends into the organization, leadership and practices of our faith communities and spiritual practice of faith in action. Our programs and resources are designed to help individuals and congregations respond to an abundant God through policies and practices of transformative inclusion.
