Environmental Moment: November Election 2024

The California November Ballot:

Mitigate Climate Change and Vote for the Earth

A Recommendation from Your Green Team

This summer our planet Earth experienced the hottest days on record, causing unimaginable problems in countries and communities without opportunities to mitigate heat for people, animals, and crops. Clearly, climate change is here and getting worse. The effects are being experienced here in California and in the Sonoma Valley in many ways of which you are well aware.

You may already know that Prop 4 on the November ballot will be vital to mitigating the effects of climate change. You’ll remember that St. Andrew is an Earth Care Congregation. With this commitment and with these values, the Green Team urges your support to vote in favor of the Climate Bond, Prop 4. Prop 4 will provide a stable, reliable source of funding for needed climate measures such as carbon sequestration, resilience, mitigation, and more. The CA Secretary of State's State Voter Guide provides the comprehensive, official description of the proposition (see https://voterguide.sos.ca.gov/propositions/4/).

Here is a brief list of what the Climate Bond, Prop 4, will do:

Provides $10 billion to finance projects for:

• Wildfire prevention

• Safe drinking water

• Drought, flood, and water resilience

• Coastal resilience

• Extreme heat mitigation

• Biodiversity and nature-based climate solutions

• Climate-smart, sustainable, and resilient farms, ranches, and working lands

• Park recreation and outdoor access

• Clean air programs

Who will benefit? Everyone! Hundreds of millions of $ will benefit private industry for clean energy projects such as offshore wind farms. And 40% of the money will support disadvantaged communities which suffer most from climate disasters. You can envision from the list above how you will benefit personally from this proposition.

The St. Andrew Green Team gives its strongest endorsement to Proposition 4 and encourages your support of this measure in November!
