Green Tip #21: Clean Power

The Presbyterian Church USA actively encourages all congregations to be good stewards of all our God-given flora, fauna, and natural resources. St Andrew is actively pursuing an Earth Care Congregation designation by the PCUSA, with your help, this is an achievable goal for 2021.

Good News: Washington state has banned single use plastics!

Green Tip #21: Did you know that the electric power sector is among the largest contributors of greenhouse gases in the United States, representing 28% of all emissions. [source: EPA]. The energy usage of a single family residence, on average, produces 15 pounds of carbon dioxide per year [source: EPA]. Solar panels are becoming increasingly affordable plus there is a 26% Federal Tax Credit (which will be reduced to 24% by the end of 2022). ***RENTERS*** see below. There are also low income credits in California. Solar panel life expectancy is 25-30 years and the payback for a solar installation is less than 6 years on average for a single family home. Added bonus: this will increase your home value (and in California, there is no property tax increase).

Are you a renter or unable to finance solar panels? There is another alternative to PGE – Sonoma Clean Power (SCP). SCP provides electricity service that is 50% renewable and 97% carbon free at about the same cost as PG&E. Here is a link to their website: Sonoma Clean Power for Residences
