Lenten Series at St. Andrew
Angels Unaware...
Let mutual affection continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to stranges, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.
Hebrews 13:1-2
This Season of Lent we’ll explore the practice of entertaining angels unaware. We’ll learn who we call stranger and how to let go of preconceived judgments. We’ll embrace God’s inclusive and profound love, expanding the ways we live into love in the face of adversity.
As we go about our everyday lives, we’ll open our hearts to the possibility that everyone we meet, everyone we don’t know or possibly don’t like, is a brother and sister.
Fat Tuesday Family Pot Luck
March 4 - 5:30-7:30 pm

The hall will be alive with the tastes, sounds, and ambiance of a Mardi Gras social potluck, complete with themed food, necklaces and masks, music, and lots and lots of eating! And of course, there will be King's Cake with the hidden toy babies inside!
There will be a sign up sheet this Sunday after church in the Narthex.
What is Fat Tuesday? Mardi Gras means "Fat Tuesday" in French, and is the celebratory carnival that leads up to the beginning of Lent.

and to dust you will return.” Genesis 3:19
Lydia's Table
March 9 - April 6 - 10:30 am
Each Sunday of Lent
Each Sunday during Lent, immediately following our worship services, you’re invited to sit down with folks you don’t know well in the spirit of Christian hospitality and fellowship. After an informal offering of communion and short reflection by Nicole, you’ll be given a variety of table topics for reflection and a sharing of stories. Open to adults and children (there will be an activity table for children), this is an opportunity connect and deepen our relationships in our St. Andrew community.
Taizé Prayer Around the Cross
March 11, 18, 25; April 1, 8, and 15
6:30pm
Each Tuesday of Lent
During the Season of Lent, join us for Prayer Around the Cross in the style of the Taizé Community.
Each Tuesday evening during the Season of Lent — John Griffin and Jeff Gaines will lead a simple candlelight service of Taizé Prayer Around the Cross.
What is Taizé?
The Taizé community is an international ecumenical Christian community located next to the small village of Taizé outside Cluny in the Burgundy region of France. Founded in 1940 by Br. Roger, who brought together brothers from all over the world, the community has long been committed to promoting and praying for reconciliation, peace, and unity. Each week it welcomes up to 8000 people, mostly young adults, from around the globe. They spend time in prayer, song, Bible study, workshops, discussion, and fellowship.
Unique to the Taizé community is their style of prayer. One aspect of Taizé prayer is the music, which is sung through simple prayer-chants. By singing together simple chants that are short, easy to learn, and repeated many times, those worshipping in the style of Taizé are able to let go with their mind, settle into their hearts, allowing themselves to listen for the Voice of the Holy One.
Jeff Gaines and John Griffin, both retired clergy and regular attenders and friends of St. Andrew, have years of experience leading Taizé services with their congregations in the US and abroad in pilgrimages and retreats.

Good Friday Worship Service
April 18 - 7:00pm
A worship service of music, scripture, silence including a “tenebrae” experience as light fades into darkness. The word “tenebrae” means “darkness” or “shadows,” dating back to a 4th century Holy Week observance in which the lights in the church are extinguished one by one as the service proceeds. The scripture readings begin with Last Supper and follow Jesus through the Garden of Gethsemane to his arrest, trial, and death on the cross.
